DAVIDE GROPPI MOON20

Davide Gropp's legendary luminaire KUU celebrates its 20th anniversary!

Birthday celebrations are on the agenda! Davide Gropp's iconicMOON celebrates its 20th birthday. The simple and powerful idea, which took physical form in 2005, remains magical.

The MOON is a vision suspended in time, a fragment of a dream that materializes in light. KUU continues to inspire and surprise, confirming that true beauty lies in the uniqueness and emotion of light.

making KUU...

Part of the mystery of KUU's uniqueness lies in the manufacturing process: each KUU is handmade. Layer by layer, each luminaire is given its own hotness by hand-applying Japanese paper. Each fold, each shadow is a mark of fate and authenticity. This dedication to each piece makes them unique.

To mark the occasion, Davide Groppi and Gianni Lucchesi have put together a poetic short film called "The Moon, a hanging dream". In this encounter, the light of the MOON tells stories of intimacy, desire, hope and dreams, transforming the environment into a place where the metaphysical and the everyday merge into one poetic vision.

The beauty of this project lies in the meeting of two suggestive elements - man and the moon. Each seeks to understand and touch the other, in a balancing act between the large and the small, the terrestrial and the astronomical. The MOON thus becomes a metaphor for dreams, beauty and exploration, a light that enlightens us and makes us reflect on human nature in search of a deeper meaning.

Davide Groppi

Davide Groppi (born 1963 in Piacenza, Italy) is an acclaimed lighting designer whose work combines a minimalist aesthetic with a poetic sense of light. After graduating from high school, he started working as a mechanical draughtsman, but in 1988 he opened a small workshop in his hometown of Piacenza, where he began making his own lighting prototypes and marketing them under his own name.

In 1994, Groppi met furniture designer Maddalena De Padova, who decided to exhibit her Baloo lamp prototypes at the Salone del Mobile in Milan. This event marked a turning point in his career, giving him the opportunity to promote his work more widely.

The luminaires created by Gropp are renowned for their simplicity, lightness, emotionality and ingenuity. His works are inspired by art, the magical world and the desire to create something tangible.

Groppi has won several awards, including two Compasso d'Oro awards in 2014 for his Zero and Sampei lamps, in recognition of his innovative and artistic approach to lighting.

In his work, there is always a desire to create something meaningful and significant, giving light not only a functional but also an emotional dimension.
